  • Introduction to Colour Theory in Watercolour
     18 April 2026
     9:30 am - 4:00 pm
     Shore Studio

Colour theory is the study of how colours interact and work together.

This one-day workshop offers a practical introduction to colour theory for anyone working with watercolour. Whether you’re just starting out or want to fill in the gaps in your colour knowledge, this class will give you the tools to mix colours more confidently and help make better colour decisions in your artwork.

You’ll learn how the colour wheel can guide you when choosing and mixing colours, and take part in hands-on exercises to put theory into practice.

We’ll cover:

Colour temperature, value, and how they relate to colour mixing

Colour harmony, relationships, and relativity

Understanding paint pigments and how they behave differently and how this can inform your choices when buying paints.

You’ll be working with a contemporary Double Primary palette, which includes:

A warm and cool yellow

A warm and cool red

A warm and cool blue

Plus a few neutral earth colours

By the end of the day, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how colour works—and how to make it work for you.

Individuals will need to bring their own watercolour materials.

An art materials list will be provided upon enrolment.
