WORKSHOP SUMMARY
What tools do we use? Information about pencils, papers etc.
Observation skills – drawing what we see
Drawing leaves – dominant and recessive lines – exploring 3D and perspective
Tracing & Composition – we will talk about design strengths and weaknesses
Tonal observation is important in the early stages of establishing your composition
Putting paint to paper
Handling a brush achieving a fine point
Colour mixes – Getting to know green!
Layering of colour & Tonal perspective – Achieving light, adding the darks
Finishing touches – can I do more?
MATERIALS LIST
Pencils: F
Drawing pad or paper: A3 size
Tracing pad or paper: A3 size
Drawing board or desk easel
Regular painting equipment: Palette, water pot, tissues etc.
Watercolour Paints: Artist quality, bring what you have
Brushes: Good quality brushes which come to a fine point for best results. Synthetic brushes are economical:
Sizes 0, 1, 2, 5. Choose brushes to suit your budget: – My favourites: Winsor & Newton: – Sceptre Gold series 101 sable/ synthetic
Coloured Pencils: Faber-Castell Polychromos coloured pencils if you have them
Erasers: Soft white plastic eraser
Paper of your choice must be hot press watercolour paper 300gsm
