Join Vicki Whalan in this 3 hour Master Class and learn how to stretch and seal watercolour paper.

1. Tutor will demonstrate stretching watercolour paper onto a board.
2. Tutor will demonstrate stretching watercolour paper over a stretcher frame.
3. Tutor will demonstrate how to seal the frame stretched watercolour paper using Gamblin cold wax.

In demonstration 1, Tutor will use 300gsm paper and watercolour gummed tape to stretch paper to a board. Tutor explain different wetting techniques and suitable stretching boards as well as hints and tips.

• Participants will then stretch their own paper onto a board.

In demonstration 2, Tutor will again use 300gsm paper to stretch watercolour paper over a stretcher frame, instruct how to correctly mitre the corners and staple in place.

• Participants will then stretch their own watercolour paper over a frame.

In demonstration 3, Tutor will demonstrate the correct technique required for sealing watercolour paper with a wax product.

Each participant will receive take home worksheets outlining each demonstration technique.

MATERIALS LIST

1x sheet 300gsm Arches watercolour paper

1x stretcher frame- no larger than 30cm x 30cm

Plastic tray with sides at least 5cm which will fit a piece of A4 paper

Fine water spray bottle

2x clean soft towels – at least bath mat size

1x A3 size board – NB – marine ply board is best as it will not warp

Roll of watercolour gummed tape

Several clean soft cloths such as chux

Metal ruler – 60cm is preferred

Plastic water bottle

B graphite pencil and kneadable eraser

Heavy duty staple gun with staples– NB your tutor and Shore Studio will also share if you don’t have one
