Course Description

Join portrait and life drawing teacher, Manuela Pilz (TAS) in this 2-day weekend workshop and be introduced to the tools to help drawing a portrait using beautifully toned papers to enhance mood and atmosphere in your works.
In this class we will examine how to draw features of the face and the form of the head with emphasis of the three-quarter angle which is the most common angle in portraiture.

Step-by-step instructions will be given to help with proportions and structure and there will be regular demonstrations to help. In this workshop good quality reference images will be supplied. Time will be given to explaining the process of choosing a good reference image for a tonal drawing to help you choose reference images in the future.

This class is recommended for those who have not only drawn portraits before but also for those who are beginners to drawing the portrait. If you are planning to do the 2-Day Costumed Figure drawing workshop with Manuela this would be a perfect class to prepare you for working with the model (Costumed Life Drawing Drawing Workshop Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th July 2023)

• 4 sheets Quill A3 paper or good quality cartridge paper
• 2 A3 sheets of good watercolour paper hot press
• Staedtler Mars Lumograph Graphite pencils 2H, HB, B, 2B, 4B, 6B
• Notepad to take notes for class
• Knife for sharpening pencils
• Blending sticks
• Tombow precision eraser
• Kneadable eraser
• Hard eraser
• Good quality pencil sharpener
• A bristle brush for blending
• Small mirror
• Good artist masking tape
• Measuring sticks
• Rulers
• Scissors
• Large clean brush to tone the paper
• Small jar
